About
Jupiter Biomedical Research is developing oral therapeutics for cancer and for viral diseases.
JBR Objectives.
To develop an oral therapeutic enabling patients to be treated in both the hospital and community setting. To provide a cost-effective treatment that can be used in currently practiced combination therapies leading to equivalent or better response outcomes, a lower burden of concomitant radiation therapy and an improved safety profile. JBR is also committed to developing an oral antiviral therapy with the potential to treat distinct classes of viral pathogens.
Background.
JBR was founded in 2016 by the late Dr. William Tucker. The company is led by a board and management team combining biotechnology operating experience, pharmaceutical services depth (through Board Member John C. Fanaras, BSc, and Nucro-Technics), and decades of capital markets and business development experience. JBR-102's first human clinical study is planned for 2027.
What sets JBR apart.
Oral small-molecule, in an industry that has moved elsewhere.
Both candidates are oral small molecules, a profile that has become increasingly rare as the broader pharmaceutical industry has shifted toward monoclonal antibodies and gene therapies. Oral small molecules carry concrete advantages on cost of goods, manufacturing scale, and patient access.
Proprietary and patented, in two areas of significant unmet need.
JBR holds both candidates outright. The lead cancer indication (glioblastoma) and the broad-spectrum antiviral profile are both areas where treatment options remain narrow.
Leadership across biotech operations, drug development, and capital markets.
Leadership combines several decades of biotech operating experience (Chairman of the Board Frank P. Gerardi, who led the transition of IGI Labs to publicly-traded Teligent and served on the Dyadic International board during its $75 million sale to DuPont), drug development depth (Chief Scientific Officer David J. Vaughan, Ph.D., with more than 30 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience including multiple successful IND and CTA filings), and pharmaceutical services scale (Board Member John C. Fanaras, BSc, co-founder and President of Nucro-Technics, one of Canada's largest privately-owned pharmaceutical CROs). The board also brings four decades of corporate legal expertise (Board Member Robert C. Hackney) and capital markets experience across the leadership team.
A dual-track regulatory path through the U.S. FDA and Health Canada.
Both candidates are pursuing dual-track approvals through the U.S. FDA and Health Canada. JBR intends to file for Orphan Drug Designation in the U.S. and Canada for appropriate indications.
